Mindjet — looking to inspire their team by launching a revamped physical office space in line with their product relaunch — approached JESS3 to create custom murals for several office walls. Having done our own mural in the original JESS3 HQ, our DC office, we were excited to tackle a new mural experience. Mindjet is synonymous with collaboration, and we wanted the murals to tell that story. We treated each mural as a life-sized infographic, starting with research and data analysis to identify some of the best collaborations of all time. To add depth and interest to each composition, we mashed up multiple collaborations, choosing unlikely partners such as Rosie the Riveter and the International Space Station. Once the strategy was baked, it was on to design. We used multiple illustration styles to create an eclectic visual collection. The series feels like a museum display for the 21st century, mixing history and technology with a pop-art sensibility. In addition to the murals, we created vinyl sticker sheets for Mindjet employees so they could bring the flavor of the bold communal walls into their own offices and workspaces. On the back, we added explanations of each scene to provide context for the work. In just two days, we installed vinyl murals across seven walls. They tell the stories of Rosie the Riveter, Henry Ford’s assembly line, the Underground Railroad, the International Space Station, RUN DMC and Aerosmith — to name a few. The images serve as daily visual inspiration about what Mindjet enables and how collaboration sparks innovation and remarkable change.
